While some believe that the confidence that I display, I was born with, those who know me more intimately, know of my true inner struggle. My dilemma for much of my life has been in believing in myself – believing that I AM ENOUGH!
This is a battle that I share openly in my new e-book: “The Audacity of Me: Cultivating a Faith to Pursue My Destiny,” which is available on Amazon.com.
The tug-of-war between self-doubt and self-confidence sometimes ended with a victory for self-doubt, thanks to the repeated messages of inadequacy, which replayed in my mind:
…not smart enough,
…not strong enough,
…not polished enough,
…not holy enough,
…not talented enough,
…not experienced enough,
…not rich enough,
…not connected enough,
…not traveled enough,
…not social enough,
…not big enough,
…not small enough,
…not tall enough!”
These messages created a “little ole me complex” that often caused me to wonder if I had the talents, skills, and character necessary to realize my dreams – my destiny.
If you are like me, allow me to share with you some advice I have learned through the years of fighting to believe that I AM ENOUGH!
The “little ole me complex” is nothing more than small-minded, self-focused, faithless chatter disguised as humility. It is rooted in the inability to see beyond what is presently visible. It also excludes God from the equation as it faithlessly suggests God can’t fill the gap between where I am and where he is taking me.
I don’t have to see how God can take a little girl who was deathly afraid to speak in public and reveal a destiny that entailed speaking before large audiences. Sure, there was an obvious gap between where I was and where God saw me, but I had to learn to lean into my weaknesses and allow God to fill in my gaps.
God specializes in being the substance that exponentially boosts our capacity when there is a gap in our perceived ability. We must believe that the great gap between where we stand now and where God sees us is fillable, and that God is substance that will fill it.
God desires to fill in your gaps! He can only do so when you venture into territory that exceeds your capacity.
Don’t allow fear to keep you on a path of predictable and safe outcomes!
This is now where I am supposed to be… and yet, I AM.
Venture out where you feel a little unsteady, unprepared, or under-experienced!
Making these bold decisions will offer a great opportunity to witness God fill in your gaps.
You are ENOUGH. You are perfectly prepared, perfectly equipped, and perfectly readied for your next step. Boldly embrace your next step with excitement to see God in fresh and new ways.”
